The Scrigno del Duomo Restaurant and Wine Bar is located in Piazza Duomo, Trento, one of the most beautiful squares in Italy. The Wine Bar is located on the ground floor, at the same height as Piazza Duomo today while the Restaurant is housed in the basement, at the height of the square during Roman times. The entrance is through a wrought iron gate into a spacious courtyard.
Here in the spring and summer months, you can sample wines and dine at the outside tables with a wonderful view of the Fountain of Neptune in the centre of the square.
This area is in part paved in glass to allow the remains of the old city underfoot to be admired (eighteenth century well and walls dating from the Roman period). The Scrigno del Duomo opened its doors in 1999 after major renovation work was carried out on the former "Casa Balduini".
The elegant and refined "Scrigno del Duomo" Restaurant is situated downstairs in the old cellars of a seventeenth-century building.
Before sitting down at the beautifully laid out tables, the sommelier will offer you an aperitif under a wrought-iron vine and trellis created by di Luciano Zanoni
The main dining area is in the "Senesi" room, named after the artist who created the wonderful graffito artwork which covers the entire wall of the room. Other smaller rooms are available for those prefer to dine in a more secluded atmosphere, perhaps for a business meeting or special occasion
The most "ancient" and fascinating of all the rooms is the cellar where you can admire the Roman city wall and an eighteenth-century well, which came to light during excavations and has been perfectly restored: this is the extremely well-stocked wine cellar of the Scrigno, where enthusiasts can indulge in the search for highly-prized, unique labels and bottle sizes.
The Chef Alfredo personally elaborates the most important dishes, offering revisited, creative versions of the local cuisine. The meticulous and painstakingly attentive service makes this restaurant an ideal destination for lovers of fine food and wines. The wine list offers a choice of over 750 labels and a wide range of wines available by the glass.
